The Afro-Peruvian Sextet Shows Us “How To”

Members of Gabriel Alegría’s Afro-Peruvian Sextet give lessons on traditional Afro-Peruvian instruments. Percussion master Freddy “Huevito” Lobatón introduces viewers to the cajón, cajita criolla and quijada de burro. Then, he’s joined by Gabriel Alegría and Javier Barrera for a demonstration of these instruments as an ensemble. As a bonus, Lobatón and Barrera demonstrate the zapateo criollo, a dance of African, Andean and Andalusian origins.
