Book Club / Q&A   November 2017

Andrew Schulman, author of “Waking the Spirit: A Musician’s Journey Healing Body, Mind, and Soul,” answers our Book Club readers’ questions.

Recounting his personal experience in the ICU as both a patient and a medical musician, Andrew Schulman’s writing is a testament to music and its ability to inspire hope and to guide people through personal challenges. Schulman’s story encourages us to think about the times in our lives when music helped us to reconnect with joy or face a difficult situation.

Andrew Schulman is a guitarist, a medical musician and a member of the critical care staff at Berkshire Medical Center. He is also the author of our most recent Connect: 21CM Book Club selection. In “Waking the Spirit: A Musician’s Journey Healing Body, Mind, and Soul,” Schulman weaves cutting-edge research on neuroscience and medicine with what he’s learned as a professional musician, in order to explore the power of music to heal the body and awaken the spirit. Now, Sylvia Yang presents Schulman with questions posed to him by our readers.
