Colour of Music: Black Classical Musicians Festival

October 18 - October 22

The Colour of Music Festival shines a light on the significance of black classical musicians throughout history – like that of Le Chavalier de Saint-Georges, an 18th-century celebrity of French opera – as well as the enormous contributions of today’s classical musicians of African ancestry.

21CM Takeaway: Who plays our favorite music, and why does that matter? The Colour of Music Festival invites audiences to ponder that question, all while examining the cultural history of our art and presenting a series of critically noteworthy performances. This year’s gala performance features the “Hiawatha Wedding Feast” and Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915;” the rest of the festival boasts a lineup of musicians of African descent from all over the world.
