“Denis & Katya” at Festival O19

September 18 - September 29

Opera Philadelphia kicks off its annual opera festival with the world premiere of “Denis & Katya” by composer Philip Venables and librettist-director Ted Huffman, which dramatizes the true story of the two 15-year-olds who livestreamed their fatal standoff with Russian Special Forces.

21CM Takeaway: Venables and Huffman are the duo behind acclaimed Royal Opera House commission “4.48 Psychosis,” and are just two of the many world-class artists who will come together in Philadelphia for 12 days of superb opera. Along with “Denis & Katya,” Festival O19 will stage another world premiere, “Let Me Die” by Joseph Keckler, along with Prokofiev’s “The Love for Three Oranges” and Handel’s “Semele.”
