Grace Chorale Brooklyn: “A Long Dark Shadow”

March 1 - March 3

In commemoration of the centennial of the Red Summer of 1919, Grace Chorale of Brooklyn presents a program featuring works by William Grant Still, Duke Ellington and two young composers commissioned by the Chorale.

21CM Takeaway: The Red Summer of 1919 marked a period of intense, racially motivated violence and the beginning of the Great Migration, when six million African-Americans relocated from the southern U.S. to the North and West. One hundred years later, Grace Chorale of Brooklyn uses music to explore how the African-American experience has changed – and how it has remained the same.
