World Premiere: David Lang’s Symphony for a Broken Orchestra

December 3

Teaming up with Temple Contemporary, David Lang has written, literally, a symphony for a broken orchestra, using for his palette only damaged instruments owned by the Philadelphia School District.

21CM Takeaway: While the creation of the piece and the collaboration with the greater Philadelphia community for its performance is an inspired work of art in itself, the ultimate goal of this project is to have donors “adopt” the school district’s broken instruments, fund their repair and ultimately return them to the hands of students.
