Opera in lofts and abandoned warehouses? It seems straightforward – until you begin to consider the details. Installing lighting rigs, attaining proper permitting, dealing with egress issues, bathrooms, etc. Producing such an event is a formidable task. I’ve now gone to a few of these operas, and I’ve been supremely impressed by the production value and talent. In (Le) Poisson Rouge fashion, they each have a happening bar setup and encourage bringing booze back to your seat (if you’re lucky enough to get a seat, since the shows usually sell out, leaving only standing room come time for the overture).
